Centre for
Sight, India’s leading network of super-specialty eye hospitals, has announced
the launch of its Advanced Retina Surgical Services at its Vijayawada centre,
located centrally in Mogalrajpuram. This development brings globally
benchmarked retina care closer to the people of Andhra Pradesh, eliminating the
need to travel to metro cities for complex retinal treatment.
Founded in 1996
by Padma Shri Awardee Prof. Dr. Mahipal S. Sachdev, a pioneer in modern eye
surgery and one of the most respected names in Indian ophthalmology, Centre for
Sight has grown into the most trusted eye care network in the country. With
over 85 hospitals across 30+ cities, a team of 350+ expert doctors, and nearly
three decades of excellence, Centre for Sight stands at the forefront of vision
care in India. Its reputation is built on clinical expertise, cutting-edge
technology, and a deeply patient-centric approach. The group is widely
recognized for its leadership across a wide spectrum of eye specialties
including cataract, refractive surgery (pioneering techniques like SILK and
SMILE), cornea, glaucoma, retina, pediatric ophthalmology, oculoplasty, and
ocular oncology. All Centre for Sight hospitals are NABH-accredited, ensuring
the highest standards of quality and safety. The newly launched retina unit in
Vijayawada is equipped with the Appasamy VR surgical system, a state-of-the-art
platform that enables high-precision surgeries.
The centre now
offers complete care for retinal disorders such as retinal detachment,
vitrectomy, diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration (ARMD),
retinal laser treatments, and intravitreal injections. The facility is also
supported by advanced diagnostics including Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT),
fundus photography, and B-scan ultrasonography, ensuring early and accurate
diagnosis. Retinal diseases are among the most serious and silently progressing
causes of vision loss. Conditions like diabetic retinopathy and ARMD often show
no symptoms in early stages, making regular screening and timely treatment
vital. With India seeing a surge in diabetes-related eye issues, this launch is
a timely response to an urgent need.
The retina team
at Centre for Sight Vijayawada brings together extensive experience and
advanced expertise. Dr. G Sudheer, Consultant in Medical Retina with over 20
years of experience, emphasized the urgency of timely intervention, saying,
“Retinal diseases can lead to irreversible blindness if not caught in time.
With this launch, we aim to make advanced retina care locally accessible, so
patients no longer have to travel long distances for life-changing treatments.”
Leading the
Surgical Retina services is Dr. Rachita Sarangi, Senior Consultant with 15
years of experience. She highlighted the significance of the upgrade, noting,
“We now have both the clinical expertise and advanced technology to treat
complex retinal conditions right here in Vijayawada. This is a meaningful step
forward for the region.”
Making advanced care more accessible, the centre is empanelled under all major government health schemes, including Aarogyasri, CGHS, ECHS, ESI, and EHS, ensuring affordability for eligible patients. This expansion reflects Centre for Sight’s national mission to bring world-class, ethical, and inclusive eye care to every part of the country—combining medical expertise, modern infrastructure, and a compassionate approach. Because when it comes to your eyes — Don’t compromise on your vision. Trust the experts.
